BREEDING CONFIRMATION OF THE WHITE STORK (CICONIA CICONIA) IN THE FIELD OF MALIQI AFTER MORE THAN 50 YEARS
“Shpendët e Shqipërisë” ka kënaqësinë të ndajë me ju, lajmin e rrallë dhe të parë në së paku 50 vitet e fundit për rikthimin e foleizmit të lejlekut në fushën e Maliqit, dikur këneta e Maliqit.
Ky lajm fort i gëzueshëm, buroi si rezultat i një hulumtimi të ndërmarrë nga “Shpendët e Shqipërisë” që prej pranverës së këtij viti. Ky hulumtim u motivua, duke marrë për bazë faktin që në fillim të kë tij sezoni folezimi, lejleku u verejt në jo pak zona të vendit, dikur zona folezimi. Kësisoj, “Shpendët e Shqipërisë” nxiti dhe udhëzoi vullnetarë dhe kontakte të saj për të bërë hulumtime mbi folezimin e llojit në disa zona, përfshirë këtu edhe fushën e Maliqit.
Falë këtij hulumtimi, u arrit të vërtetohej folezimi i lejlekut në fushën e Maliqit si dhe të gjendej edhe foleja, ndërkohë që nga kjo zonë kemi raportime edhe për 2 fole të tjera të këtij lloji, që do ta çonte në 3 numrin total të foleve të lejlekut në fushën e Maliqit dhe në 9, numrin e foleve në nivel vendi.
Vullnetarët tanë kanë filluar punën për vërtetimin e informacionit dhe gjetjen e 2 foleve të tjera. Kësisoj shpresojmë që së shpejti t’ju përcjellim sërish një lajm të mirë.
Lejleku është një prej shpendëve më të rrezikuar në vendin tonë, me një popullatë folezuese prej vetëm 7 çiftesh, marrë për bazë edhe gjetjen e fundit të sapo raportuar.

“Birds of Albania” has the pleasure to share with you, the rare and first report in at least the last 50 years about the return of White Stork as breeder in the Maliqi plain, once the Maliqi Wetland.
This very good news came as a result of a quest undertaken by “Shpendët e Shqipërisë” since the spring of this year. This research was motivated, taking into account the fact that at the beginning of this year’s nesting season, the White Stork was observed in quite a few areas of the country, once upon a time nesting areas (such as Maliqi plain). Thus, “Birds of Albania” encouraged and instructed volunteers and its contacts to gather information for the nesting of the species in several areas, including Maliq .
Thanks to this quest, it became possible to confirm the nesting of the White Stork in the field of Maliq and to find the nest, while from this area we have reports for 2 other nests of this type, which would lead to 3 total nests in the area of Maliq and in 9 in the whole country
Our volunteers have started the work to verify this information and find the other 2 nests. So we hope to share the good news with you soon.
The stork is one of the most endangered birds in our country, with a nesting population of only 7 pairs, based on the latest finding just reported and confirmed through photographs this season.
